Teacher Certification and Testing – Oklahoma
The Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation (OCTP) has developed a teacher certification evaluation system.
The evaluations for teacher certification in the state of Oklahoma include tests in the following areas:
- general education
- subject area knowledge
- principles of basic professional education
Pearson Inc develops and administers exams on behalf of the OCTP, which they have trademarked as the Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE).
The Certification Examinations for Oklahoma Educators (CEOE) include:
- Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET)
- Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination (OPTE)
- Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT)
The purpose of the CEOE tests is to ensure that all applicants for teaching certification in Oklahoma have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job of a teacher in Oklahoma schools.
Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET):
The OGET assesses general education knowledge and skills, such as critical thinking, communication, and mathematical calculation.
The OGET test contains 100 multiple-choice questions and one writing assignment.
Oklahoma Professional Teaching Examination (OPTE):
The OPTE evaluates the professional knowledge and skills expected of Oklahoma teachers applying for their initial employment.
The OPTE includes 75 multiple-choice questions and three written tasks.
Oklahoma Subject Area Tests (OSAT):
The OSAT assesses subject-area knowledge and skills.
OSATs normally contain 80 multiple-choice questions and a written task.
The content of each CEOE test is based on a set of required test skills.
OGET test skillls are based on state core general education knowledge and skills.
OPTE test skills are based on the Oklahoma General Competencies for Teacher Licensure and Certification.
OSAT test skills are based on the Oklahoma Subject-Matter Competencies and national standards for subject-area knowledge.
All skill areas are reviewed by committees of Oklahoma educators.
